Why Am I Getting Clicks But No Sales?

Why Am I Getting Clicks But No Sales?

The visitors are coming. The analytics look healthy. And yet the sales are not there. Traffic without sales is one of the most common and most solvable problems in running anything online, because it means the hard part, getting people to show up, is already working. The leak is somewhere between the click and the checkout.

Walk your own path

The fastest diagnosis is to become your own customer. On your phone, go from landing on the page to the point of buying, slowly, noticing every moment of friction or doubt. Most leaks are obvious once you stop skimming past them the way you do when you built the thing. Here is what you are looking for.

Leak 1: the wrong traffic

If visitors arrive and leave within seconds, you may be attracting people who were never going to buy, the wrong audience from an ad, or search traffic looking for something you do not sell. More of the wrong traffic will never convert. If this is you, the fix is upstream, in who you are targeting, not on the page.

Leak 2: the page is slow or unclear

A page that loads slowly loses people before they see the offer, and the effect is worse on mobile. A page that does not make the offer and the next step immediately obvious loses the rest. If a visitor has to work out what to do, many simply will not.

Leak 3: price or trust stops them

Sometimes the offer lands but the price or shipping comes as a shock at the wrong moment, and they leave. Sometimes there is simply no reason to trust you, no reviews, no real photos, no clear returns or contact details, and a stranger will not risk their card on a business that could be anyone.

Leak 4: the checkout or contact is hard work

A long, confusing checkout, forced account creation, or a contact form with too many fields all cost you people at the final step, when they had already decided to act. The more effort you ask for at the moment of purchase, the more sales you lose. And as always, test that the form or checkout actually works, a broken one looks exactly like "no sales".

Fix the leak, not everything

Once you have walked the path, you usually know which leak is yours, and it is better to fix that one thing well than to change ten things and learn nothing. Traffic is expensive to earn; it is worth making sure your site and checkout actually convert it before you pay for more. Getting people to the page and turning them into customers are two halves of the same job, and that whole path, ad, page, offer, checkout, is what our digital marketing work is built to make work together.
